One question that I get asked often from people who are just beginning to dabble in graphic design is “Which is better? Photoshop or Illustrator?” In this case, it’s like comparing apples to oranges, and I can’t really answer the question without having to give this explanation.
Photoshop and Illustrator are two different programs that SPECIALIZE in two different things. Yes, technically you can use either program to complete a specific task, but each program has different tools which can make your life much easier. Photoshop is a powerhouse and can do tons of stuff, whereas Illustrator has a more specialized skill set.
Photoshop is good for RASTER IMAGES (pixel based)
-Photograph editing/ retouching
-Full color images
-Images with lots of texture
Illustrator is good for VECTOR IMAGES (more info here)
-Images with spot color
-Illustrations and drawings
The answer is: It depends on the project at hand as well as your comfort level in each program. If you are on a tight deadline, you may not want to try to learn Illustrator over night. In that case, contact us and we can help you out!
