In our previous articles we’ve discussed the first three Disciplines: The WIG (Wildly Important Goal), the Lead Measures (activities that drive the WIG), and the Scoreboard (the way to make it clear to the players when they are winning and losing). Today we will discuss Discipline 4 – Create a Cadence of Accountability. In other words, consistent and continuous communication about the WIG, the Lead Measures, and the scoreboard. Discipline 4 is where execution happens. Disciplines 1, 2 and 3 set up the game, but until you apply Discipline 4 your team isn’t in the game. Our team is in the game. You deserve to have a Screen Printing San Diego company with higher standards. That’s who we are.
Why? Because we hold regular WIG sessions. The focus of the WIG session is to hold each other accountable for taking the actions that will move the lead measures resulting in the achievement of the WIG. The WIG sessions are sacred. They are held on the same day at the same time every week. These WIG sessions are about 40 minutes and are exclusively devoted to the achievement of the week. Nothing else enters the discussion. Every team member reports on progress from the previous week as measured by our scoreboard. Then we Identify, Discuss and Solve issues related to that week’s performance.
Every other day, we have “huddles.” A huddle is a 5-10-minute standing meeting where we discuss the day-to-day activities and the “curveballs” the “whirlwind” throws at us. Between one thorough WIG session and daily “huddles,” we can handle the “whirlwind” of lower value activities while always keeping our eye on the WIG. These daily huddles help to “reduce the noise.” Every organization is in a constant effort to stay focused on the WIG in the face of all those lower level activities that must get completed, yet at the same time stay engaged with the scoreboard.
“The 4 Disciplines of Execution” by McChesney and Covey is our field manual. Because we care deeply about execution, our clients reward us. See our reviews at www.breakout.co/seereviews.
